U2 – Grace

Grace
She takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name

Grace
It’s a name for a girl
It’s also a thought that changed the world
And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness in everything

Grace, she’s got the walk
Not on a ramp or on chalk
She’s got the time to talk
She travels outside of karma
She travels outside of karma
When she goes to work
You can hear her strings
Grace finds beauty in everything

Grace, she carries a world on her hips
No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips between her fingertips
She carries a pearl in perfect condition

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

Grace makes beauty out of ugly things

From “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” (2000)

Well, I’m surprisingly feeling kinda nostalgic tonight, remembering my old college days. There were times when I (especially when left alone) played this particular song, over and over again in my friend‘s old tape recorder; inside his tiny, overheated, yet memorable dorm room. And with another friend of mine‘s guitar, I began playing the tune, accompanying The Edge, pretending to be as great as Daniel Lanois… Gyahaha…

That was 7 or even 8 years ago. How time flies! And now those times were nothing more than just sweet memories to remember when I feel as I’m feeling today…

Anyway this song is one of my favorite songs from the album, which, as you might already know, is also my favorite album of all-time. The song is simple, soothing, with deep and insightful lyrics. It just echoes in my ears even after the song slowly fades away…

And, yes, Grace is literally a translation of my name in English.
